Oak Lodge and Gladstone Libraries. While some may think that libraries are on the decline, we are here to tell you that is demonstratively the wrong idea. Libraries have always been a great public and community resource and that hasn’t changed—in fact, they’ve only become even better resources for their communities. While Johnson City doesn’t yet have their own library, the nearby libraries in Gladstone and Oak Lodge have plenty to offer. Not only can you check out books and find quiet places to read, you can also rent the latest video games, board games, cookware and other equipment. In addition, there are numerous events and activities that are hosted at public libraries for both children and adults. Consider getting a library card at your closest library and attending some local events or renting some equipment for a new hobby you’ve always wanted try! Riverside ParkLocated along the Clackamas River, Riverside park is a great spot to go fishing, floating, kayaking, or if you’re not into water sports there is also a baseball field, soccer field, and picnic tables! It’s a great place for good weather activities that you don’t need to travel far to get to. The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset and if it’s clear outside, you’ll get a nice mountain view! It’s located at 17298 SW Water Ave, Clackamas, OR 97015.
Wilhoit Springs ParkIf you’re willing to travel a little farther into the outskirts of Clackamas County, head to Wilhoit Springs Park. This is a real hidden gem of Clackamas County. It’s a bit isolated, which makes it a great location to get away from city life, and because it’s so isolated, it’s not as widely known as some of the other natural springs around Oregon. The park features two separate springs: a soda spring where the water bubbles out of the ground, and a sulfurous spring. The water is very cold but very charged with carbon dioxide. In the early 1920’s it was a resort town that fell into disrepair until Clackamas County bought the land in the 1970’s. Now, it’s a great park to explore and gather some fresh spring water to take home! It’s located at: Wilhoit Springs County Park, 38160 S Wilhoit Rd, Molalla, OR 97038.
