From the moment you meet Ken, his kind-hearted nature is apparent. His positive and engaging personality helps people to feel at ease, making him approachable to just about anyone. Ken understands that there can be a number of intricate circumstances that tie into each client’s unique situation. He also understands that the time he is in a client’s life can be a stressful, scary, and emotionally charged period. The combination of his sympathetic nature and impressive legal expertise makes him a valuable support for our clients, both on the legal side as well as the human side.
Ken’s resilient personality makes him a true asset to Reynolds Defense Firm. He is always ready to catch whatever legal challenges you can throw at him, and he loves the possibility of turning legal challenges into opportunities for our clients.
Ken grew up in Houston, Texas, with parents who went out of their way to provide him with every opportunity they could. Ken is grateful for his upbringing because it taught him that a person’s background and environment play a huge role in the course of their life, just as much as personal choices do. This understanding helps Ken to keep an open mind in his relationships, both personal and professional, and drives him to do everything that he can to help those around him.
After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 1995 with a degree in psychology, Ken moved to Houston and worked at a large civil firm. While that experience extinguished any interest he had in working for a large civil firm, it also showed him how incredibly diverse the legal profession is. Ken recognized that there is basically no area of human life that the law doesn’t touch, proving a legal education to be quite valuable. Ken relocated to Oregon and attended law school at Lewis & Clark. He received his law degree in 2000 and since 2003 has worked exclusively as an Oregon criminal defense attorney, representing and helping thousands of people in the years since.
While his extensive experience as a public defender certainly helped him hone his legal and interpersonal skills, Ken also credits his experience as a judicial clerk with making him the attorney he is today. During the three years he spent in that position, Ken had the opportunity to watch hundreds of attorneys in action, learning strengths and weaknesses of various trial tactics and personal style.
As for Ken’s life outside of Reynolds Defense Firm, he enjoys outdoor activities such as gardening, hiking, and skiing. He spends most of his time with his partner, Sara, and their young son, Paul, trying new restaurants and visiting the coast. Ken also has some notable carpentry skills, as evidenced by the “catio” that he recently built for his three cats Dottie, JuneBug, & Mr. Waffles. They’re pretty impressed.
