If there was ever a posterchild for the statement ‘don’t mistake kindness for weakness’, Rich Oberdorfer would be that person! Rich is one of the most kind-hearted and genuine people we know, and at the same time, he is widely recognized as one of the foremost DUI attorneys in Oregon.

Rich has more than 20 years of experience representing people facing DUI and other charges, and he is often sought after to train lawyers from other law firms about the ever-changing landscape of Oregon’s DUI laws. He has testified before the Oregon legislature on proposed DUI-related laws, and he regularly presents and contributes to the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association’s conferences and publications on various DUI-related topics. In addition to his role as an incredible advocate for his clients, Rich has also served as a judge, presiding over courtrooms in several local jurisdictions.

Rich, known for his empathetic approach to DUI defense, draws from his upbringing in a rural town, where resilience was a way of life. Witnessing the challenges faced by families in the mill community, Rich learned the value of self-sufficiency and the importance of extending a helping hand to those in need. With over 20 years of legal experience, his journey from a courtroom intern to a respected DUI defense attorney reflects his unwavering commitment to hard work and client care. He believes in fostering personal connections with clients, reassuring them that they're not alone in their legal battles.

Rich's dedication extends beyond the courtroom. He uses his professional and personal experience to empower clients to navigate their legal challenges and seize opportunities for success in their everyday life. As a member of the Reynolds Defense Firm team, his supportive approach aligns perfectly with the firm's ethos of providing steadfast guidance to clients facing DUI charges. He is dedicated to advocating for his clients and providing them with the compassionate support they need during challenging times.

Graduating cum laude from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2001, after completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Oregon in 1996, Rich's journey in law began with invaluable experience in handling serious criminal matters, including Measure 11 and homicide defense. Eventually, Rich wanted to align his legal practice more closely with his personal values and transitioned from handling homicide defense cases to focusing on DUI matters. He identified with the everyday challenges and mistakes that can lead to DUI arrests, and wanted to help good people who find themselves caught up in the criminal system. Transitioning his focus to DUI defense, he honed his skills in trials and settlements, gaining a deep understanding of the legal system's intricacies and achieving positive outcomes for his clients.

Guided by mentorship from a notable figure in Oregon's DUI defense realm, Rich became a leading authority in DUI defense, contributing over 15 scholarly lectures and writings to legal education. Recognized for his expertise, he has been cited as an expert in multiple editions of the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association's DUII Notebook. Licensed to practice before all Oregon courts, as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon and the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, Rich's credentials speak volumes about his dedication to serving clients with the highest level of legal representation. Actively engaged in professional activities and organizations, he continues to share his expertise through lectures and conferences focused on DUI defense.

Rich has garnered significant recognition throughout his career, including being named a Rising Star in DUII defense by Oregon Super Lawyers from 2008 to 2012 and an Oregon Super Lawyer in 2023. His perfect 10 rating on Avvo.com underscores his dedication to client satisfaction and legal excellence. His inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America in 2017 further attests to his esteemed reputation among peers.

Reynolds Defense Firm is honored to have Rich as a valued member of our team. Client Reviews
★★★★★
These are fantastic people! I was so nervous when I first came in, but they treated me like a human, not someone who had messed up in a major way. Throughout the process, they helped me understand all the steps and supported me both with the legal stuff, but also the personal stuff. J.M.
★★★★★
Reynolds Defense is amazing. From the minute they pick up the phone, the entire staff is outstanding. Don't bother shopping , wondering who to get, if they are going to help or hinder, do they even care. Reynolds Defense Firm will not disappoint. T.H.
★★★★★
When they tell you to let them worry about your legal issue and for you to take care of yourself they really do mean it. DUIs are no joke and I was assuming the worst. And they literally saved my life, my job my home and my license. B.O.
★★★★★
The firm knows what they're doing, treated me with dignity during a time where I felt very overwhelmed and unsure of what I was going to do. They helped me through my entire unpleasant experience by following up with me every step of the way, ensuring I was never left in the dark. E.S.
★★★★★
Take it from me and don't go it alone. If your feeling sick to your stomach you are not alone. From the very first phone call they will treat you like family and have your back the whole way. You wont have one but a team of lawyers. B.W.
